About Byrna

Pronounced bur-nah, Byrna Launchers are incredibly powerful and effective non-lethal devices that can be used for having fun in the garden and more importantly, for self-defence. They are powered by compressed air (Co2) that fire self-defence and training projectiles.

Byrna currently have five models available in SA:

With an effective range of 19m for Byrna SD pistol and 54m for the Mission 4 rifle, they explode upon impact and immediately incapacitates assailants allowing one time to react or get away. 

The assailant will experience severe difficulty in breathing, pain with a burning sensation as well as temporary blindness however they will make a full recovery between 5 to 60 minutes. Various training projectiles are available for practice or having fun in the garden.

Powered by 8-gram CO₂ cartridges, the Byrna CL fires .61 calibre projectiles at speeds of up to approximately 122 metres per second, with an effective engagement distance of up to 18 metres.

Despite its compact form, the Byrna CL is engineered to deliver approximately 40% more power than the Byrna SD, while matching the performance of the significantly larger Byrna LE platform. This makes the CL a unique option for users seeking full-power performance in a highly compact launcher.

The CL features Byrna’s patented pull-pierce CO₂ system, keeping the cartridge unpierced until the first trigger pull. This ensures consistent output and avoids unnecessary CO₂ loss during storage.

Any unused CO₂ will leak out over time therefore only leave unpierced cartridges installed when the launcher is not in use. When ready to use, switching to fire mode pierces the CO₂ cartridge and fires the first projectile simultaneously.

Byrna Projectiles (0.61 | 0.68 Calibre)

Various projectiles are available for both training and self-defence. Byrna MAX and Byrna Pepper are chemical filled projectiles that explode upon impact creating a cloud of pepper and tear gas. Exposure will induce temporary blindness, respiratory distress and a burning sensation on any exposed skin.

This reaction lasts between 5-minutes and 1-hour allowing enough time to react and giving you and your family ample time to get out of harm’s way.
