Difference Between the Ajax Hubs

What is the difference between the Ajax Hubs?

There are currently four Ajax Hub control panels available, i.e. HubHub PlusHub 2 and Hub 2 Plus. This page will provide an overview of the four Hubs highlighting the common aspects of the control panels as well as their differences.

Ajax Hub Control Panels

The Hub control panels are complete and ready to operate out of the box. Measuring only 163 x 163 x 36mm in size, the Hubs all include pre-installed transformers, battery backup for up to 15/16 hours, GSM module, IP internet module, anti-tamper and a smart bracket for easy mounting.

The Hubs are fully setup and controlled via the powerful and free Ajax mobile app with real time monitoring of all the wireless devices. Instant notifications are delivered to your phone via Push Messages, Voice and/or SMS and easily connects to your armed response company.

The Hubs communicate via Jeweller which is a radio protocol developed by Ajax System. Jeweller provides a range of up to 2000m between the hub and connected system devices in open areas with no interference and guarantees an uninterrupted interaction.

Ajax Hub Differences

The improvements and innovations introduced in each new Hub are basically related to expansions in the communication of the system and the types and numbers of devices they support.

While the majority of alarm applications will not utilise the maximum number of devices, users and groups / partitions of the smaller panels, the other things to take into consideration are the following:

  • Scenarios: to program actions of automation devices (Relay, WallSwitch and Socket) by schedule, response to an alarm or button press. These awesome features can add up!!
  • ReX range extender: for large sites, more than one ReX extender may be required
  • Video Surveillance: each Hub has maximum number of camera steaming capabilities
  • MotionCam support: only available on the two latest Hubs, i.e. Hub 2 and Hub 2 Plus
  • Communication channels:
    • All the Hubs have Ethernet ports for a wired connection to a router for internet connectivity. The Hub Plus and Hub 2 Plus include WiFi meaning that they can connect to the router wirelessly via WiFi.
    • All the Hubs include GSM modules for SIM cards but vary in 2G, 3G and LTE

Concerns over 2G Network

FAQ: With the advancement of technology and with the rest of the world shutting down their 2G networks, is it safe to go with a 2G only Hub?

*In short, South Africa have millions of 2G devices such as vehicle trackers which will stop operating if / when the 2G network is shut down. It is unlikely that this will happen anytime soon or without at least a couple of years notice.

SIM Cards for Ajax Hubs

GSM / SIM card backup is essential for the uninterrupted remote functionality of your Ajax system in the event of internet failures during power failures or other reasons.

Without the internet, your Hub loses remote communication with Ajax Cloud, all connected users and your armed response company. It is therefore highly recommended to have a SIM card inserted into the Hub as backup to internet failure.

Justworx are multi-network IoT SIM cards and are well suited for Ajax Hubs. The SIM cards are non-steering meaning they automatically connect to the strongest Vodacom or MTN network in the area eliminating the need for inserting more than one SIM card into the Hub.

Justworx Data4Life includes preloaded DATA that will last for 30 years as backup to an internet connection. Click HERE for more info.
