Ajax MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller – intelligent outdoor motion detection with anti-masking

The Ajax MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller is designed to protect outdoor areas before an intruder reaches the building. Two PIR sensors monitor movement across an adjustable detection area of up to 15 m, while intelligent signal processing helps filter the environmental interference that can cause nuisance alarms outdoors.

Anti-masking protection, animal immunity and an IP55 enclosure make it well suited to driveways, gardens, parking areas, perimeter passages, yards and unheated spaces. It can run from its pre-installed batteries or use an optional external DC power supply while retaining the batteries as backup power.

Choose MotionProtect Outdoor when you need conventional outdoor motion detection without photo verification. It is particularly useful for protecting approaches to a property, boundary passages, parking areas and other locations where detecting movement before someone reaches a door or window adds an extra layer of security.

When installed at the recommended height and correctly configured, the detector can ignore animals up to 80 cm tall. Installation position is important: the expected direction of travel should cross the detector’s field of view rather than move directly towards it.

How It Works

MotionProtect Outdoor uses two PIR sensors to detect moving objects with temperatures close to that of the human body. Both sensor signals are analysed using Ajax SmartDetect and LISA processing to help distinguish genuine human movement from common sources of outdoor interference.

The detection distance can be adjusted to suit the protected area, from short-range coverage to a maximum of 15 m. When valid movement is detected while the system is armed, an alarm is transmitted to the Ajax hub using the Jeweller wireless protocol.

Separate masking sensors monitor the detector’s lenses for attempts to obstruct its view. This allows the system to warn users if someone covers, blocks or otherwise interferes with the detector’s detection area.

Whenever MotionProtect Outdoor detects motion, LISA analyses and compares signal forms from two sensors in real-time. If forms are similar, the alarm is raised.

Spectral analysis

When both sensors detect motion, but the correlational analysis doesn’t identify enough similarities, LISA compares frequency components in the signals of both sensors.

Before You Buy

• A compatible Ajax hub is required and is sold separately. MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller is compatible with Ajax hubs and Ajax radio signal range extenders.
• Install the detector between 0.8 and 1.3 m above ground level. For effective animal immunity, Ajax recommends installation at approximately 1 m.
• The detection range is adjustable up to 15 m. Perform the Ajax Detection Zone Test after installation to confirm the required coverage.
• The detector should be mounted on a firm, stable surface with its lens axis parallel to the ground and the expected path of movement crossing the detection zone.
• Avoid positioning trees, tall bushes, columns or other objects where they obstruct both PIR sensors or create unwanted movement within the detection zone.
• An optional 5–28 V DC, 200 mA external power supply can be connected. The pre-installed batteries remain in the detector as backup power.
• The Ajax Hood for MotionProtect Outdoor is sold separately and is recommended where the detector cannot be installed beneath an awning or canopy, helping protect the masking sensors from rain and other precipitation.
