Ajax MotionCam Outdoor HighMount (PhOD) Jeweller – high-mounted outdoor detection with visual verification

The Ajax MotionCam Outdoor HighMount (PhOD) Jeweller is built for outdoor areas where a conventional low-mounted detector is not the right fit. Installed between 2 and 4 m above ground, it combines two PIR sensors, microwave verification and a built-in camera to detect movement up to 15 m away and help you see what caused an alarm.

It is particularly suited to parking areas, warehouses, industrial premises, construction sites, large residential properties and other locations where elevated mounting provides a better view of the protected area. The supplied metal swivel mount allows the detector and camera to be precisely aimed for the installation height and site layout.

Is This Right for You?

Choose the HighMount model when the detector needs to sit above normal outdoor PIR height. Its 2–4 m installation range makes it easier to protect larger open areas, entrances and approaches where low-level mounting may be impractical, vulnerable to interference or unable to provide the required coverage.

This model does not provide pet immunity. If animals regularly move through the protected area and pet filtering is required, a lower-mounted Ajax outdoor detector with verified pet immunity may be the better choice.

How It Detects a Real Threat

Two PIR sensors monitor the protected area for movement with a motion detection angle of 90° horizontally and 90° vertically. SmartDetect analyses the thermal pattern detected by the PIR sensors, while temperature compensation helps maintain reliable detection as outdoor temperatures change.

After the PIR sensors detect movement, the built-in K-band microwave sensor performs an additional radio-frequency scan of the detection zone. This extra verification helps filter infrared interference such as moving warm air and other environmental effects before an alarm is confirmed.

Detection reaches up to 15 m when the detector is correctly positioned. The supplied swivel mount is an important part of the installation: it adjusts both tilt and horizontal position so the PIR detection area and camera field of view can be aimed correctly for the chosen mounting height.

When an alarm is confirmed, the built-in camera can capture a sequence of photos and send them through the Ajax system. This gives users and monitoring personnel visual context instead of relying on a motion notification alone.

Photos can be captured at 320 × 240 or 640 × 480 pixels. The HDR camera helps retain useful detail in scenes with both bright and dark areas, while infrared illumination enables black-and-white photography when ambient light is insufficient. The camera has a wider 115° horizontal and 84° vertical viewing angle than the detector’s motion detection field.

Battery or External Power

The detector is supplied with six CR123A batteries already installed and can operate for up to 3 years under the specified operating conditions. This makes completely wireless installation possible where running a power cable is inconvenient.

For permanent installations, an optional 12–24 V DC external supply can also be connected. The batteries remain installed and serve as backup power if the external supply is interrupted.

Built for Exposed Outdoor Installations

The IP55 enclosure is designed for outdoor and indoor use across operating temperatures from −25 °C to +60 °C. A Hood is included to help shield the camera and anti-masking sensors from rain and snow.

The detector also monitors attempts to interfere with its installation through its tamper protection, anti-masking system and built-in magnetometer.

Before You Buy

• A compatible Ajax hub running OS Malevich 2.26 or later is required and is sold separately.
• Supported Ajax hub families include Hub 2, Hub 2 Plus, Hub BP and Hub Hybrid models that support this detector.
• Ajax ReX 2 can be used when additional Jeweller and Wings coverage is required.
• The detector must be installed at a height of 2–4 m on a stable surface.
• The supplied swivel mount is required for installation so the correct horizontal position and tilt angle can be set for the mounting height.
• Pet immunity is not available on MotionCam Outdoor HighMount (PhOD).
• The direction of expected intrusion should cross the detector’s sensing area rather than run directly towards it.
• Photo on Demand and other extended photo functions are subject to Ajax privacy permissions and system configuration.
• This product provides still-image and image-sequence verification; it is not a continuous live-view CCTV camera.
• If external power is required, a suitable 12–24 V DC power supply is sold separately.
