Ajax Curtain Outdoor Jeweller – focused outdoor curtain detection with pet immunity and anti-masking

The Ajax Curtain Outdoor Jeweller is designed to protect a specific perimeter line rather than monitor an entire open area. Its narrow 8° horizontal detection zone makes it particularly useful alongside windows, doors, gates, fences, arches and narrow passages where movement crossing a defined boundary needs to trigger the alarm.

Two PIR sensors are supported by a K-band microwave sensor, SmartDetect processing and correlation signal analysis to help distinguish genuine human movement from thermal interference and other common causes of outdoor false alarms. Anti-masking protection adds another layer of security by detecting attempts to obstruct the detector’s field of view.

Is This Right for You?

Choose Curtain Outdoor when you want a narrow, one-sided detection barrier rather than the broad coverage provided by a conventional outdoor PIR. It is particularly useful along building façades, windows, gates and perimeter passages where people can move freely outside the protected curtain without triggering the detector.

Pet immunity is available when the detector is installed and configured specifically for that purpose. In Pet mode, Ajax recommends mounting the detector at approximately 1 m above ground level, allowing it to ignore animals up to 1 m tall when correctly positioned.

How It Works

Two parallel PIR sensors monitor the narrow protected zone for movement. When thermal movement is detected, the detector performs an additional radio-frequency scan using its built-in K-band microwave sensor. This additional verification helps filter interference from sources such as moving warm air, fans and changing environmental temperatures.

Correlation Signal Processing can require both PIR sensors to detect matching movement before the microwave verification stage is activated. The resulting alarm is transmitted to the Ajax hub using the Jeweller wireless protocol.

The detector offers Far, Near and Pet detection modes. The physical slider on the detector and the corresponding setting in the Ajax app must be configured to match the chosen installation height and required detection area.

Before You Buy

• A compatible Ajax hub is required and is sold separately.
• For standard Near or Far detection, the recommended installation height is 2.4 m. For Pet mode, install the detector at approximately 1 m.
• The physical detection-mode slider and the matching Ajax app setting must correspond with the installation height and chosen Near, Far or Pet mode.
• Install the detector vertically and position it so that the expected path of an intruder crosses the curtain detection zone.
• The supplied Hood protects the anti-masking sensors from rain and snow and should be used where the detector cannot be installed beneath suitable overhead cover.
• The supplied angle mount allows the detector to be installed parallel to the protected wall or boundary.
• After installation, run the Ajax Detection Zone Test and Jeweller signal-strength test to confirm coverage and reliable communication.
