About Byrna

Pronounced bur-nah, Byrna Launchers are incredibly powerful and effective non-lethal devices that can be used for having fun in the garden and more importantly, for self-defence. They are powered by compressed air (Co2) that fire 0.68 calibre self-defence and training projectiles.

There are currently four Byrna models available:

Byrna is not classified as a firearm, therefore no license is required to purchase or own one. Byrna allows you the freedom to fire 0.68 calibre projectiles at your assailant without the consequences of a fatal outcome. They are lightweight and easy to use with no recoil making it easy for men and woman of all ages to use.

Self-Defence 0.68 calibre projectiles contain a highly potent blend of chemical irritants that includes Pepper Spray, Tear Gas and PAVA (synthetic pepper spray) in each shot. With an effective range of 19m for Byrna SD pistol and 54m for the Mission 4 rifle, they explode upon impact and immediately incapacitates assailants allowing one time to react or get away. 

The assailant will experience severe difficulty in breathing, pain with a burning sensation as well as temporary blindness however they will make a full recovery between 5 to 60 minutes. Various training projectiles are available for practice or having fun in the garden.

Byrna SD and SD XL Models

The Byrna SD and SD XL models are the successors to Byrna HD / HD XL models and have been re-engineered for optimal performance which include upgraded sights, a honeycomb grip and a modified straight trigger.

Byrna SD Launchers use 8-gram Co2 cartridges that fire approximately 15 projectiles per cartridge.

By fitting a Byrna SD Boost adapter, it increases the length of the barrel which enables the use of 12-gram Co2 cartridges. The 12-gram Co2 cartridges offer increased muzzle velocity as well as the shot capacity of up to 30 rounds per cartridge.

*Any unused Co2 will leak out over time therefore only leave unpierced cartridges in the Byrna when not in use. When ready to use, pull the trigger in fire mode and the patented mechanism pierces the Co2 cartridge and shoots the first projectile simultaneously.

The Byrna SD XL launcher comes with a factory fitted, non-removable 12-gram boost adapter and uses 12-gram Co2 cartridges.

Similar to the Byrna SD with the Boost Adapter fitted, the Byrna SD XL modification comes with a longer barrel which provides an increase in muzzle velocity and a shot capacity of up to 30 rounds per 12-gram Co2 cartridge.

Byrna Projectiles

Various projectiles are available for both training and self-defence. Byrna MAX and Byrna Pepper are chemical filled projectiles that explode upon impact creating a cloud of pepper and tear gas. Exposure will induce temporary blindness, respiratory distress and a burning sensation on any exposed skin.

This reaction lasts between 5-minutes and 1-hour allowing enough time to react and giving you and your family ample time to get out of harm’s way.
